Continuing the Fight Against Breast Cancer in Our Community

Meet Dawn Hunt and Adrienne Wright, survivors who are continuing the fight against breast cancer.

When Dawn was first diagnosed with breast cancer, her family and friends immediately rallied around her to support her. They stepped up and started a Walk for Life team, “Friends 4 Dawn.” Today, Dawn has joined the Palmetto Health Foundation Walk for Life and Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon, 5K + 10K committee to give back to her community and to help others who have also been diagnosed with breast cancer. She volunteers her time to help raise funds in support of the Palmetto Health Breast Center, located here in the Midlands.

Adrienne Wright, diagnosed with cancer three times throughout her life, most recently fought breast cancer. When she was navigating her way through the treatment process, Adrienne was able to experience the benefits of the Palmetto Health Breast Center and all of the technological advancements made possible through community events like Walk for Life. Last year, she shared her story at the kickoff event for the 27th annual Walk for Life and Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon, 5K + 10K. Staying healthy and exercising is her way of coping, so you’ll be sure to see her at this year’s event surrounded by her family and friends!

    How You Can Help
You can help other women—like Dawn and Adrienne—who have battled breast cancer in your community by signing up to participate in the Walk for Life and Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon, 5K + 10K. On Saturday, October 13th, Spirit Communications Park and the surrounding neighborhood will turn a vivid shade of pink as thousands of your neighbors take to the streets to walk and run a 5K, a 10K, or a half marathon.

It’s a morning full of inspiration, motivation, and love. You’ll be surrounded by so many people with so many different stories to share. Some will be celebrating the fact that they’ve won their fight against breast cancer. Some are just beginning their journey with it. Some are walking in remembrance of someone that they’ve lost. It’s an incredibly uplifting morning as our community comes together to help fight breast cancer right here in the Midlands.

Did you know? All proceeds from the event will stay here in our community at the Palmetto Health Breast Center. Last year’s event raised nearly $750,000! This year, the event proceeds will fund an Upright Sterotactic Breast Biopsy room with 3D mammography technology, educational materials, breast bears, and post-mastectomy camisoles. Each dollar raised at Walk for Life will directly impact someone here—someone you might know! It could be your wife, sister, daughter, friend, neighbor, or coworker. It could even impact you. What are you waiting for? Sign up today at www.walkforlifecolumbia.org.

We can’t wait to see everyone in their pink on October 13!
