At Fig, we believe in the power of a community that works together to identify needs and find solutions—one that creates connections and is passionate about helping its neighbors. For our 2018 Social Mission Partner, we’ve chosen Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services (PAALS), an impactful non-profit whose good works contribute immensely to our thriving, local community.
PAALS is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is committed to enriching and empowering children and adults with physical disabilities and social needs by training service animals and providing animal assisted educational and recreational activities.
Over the course of two years, each puppy that PAALS works with is trained to be the perfect companion to an individual living with a disability. They are nurtured with love and trained by professionals as they complete the journey from puppy to PAALS Service Dog. Hundreds of staff and volunteer hours are logged with each dog in order to ensure that when the day comes to be matched with their new family, they are completely ready.
The final step in the training process is a true celebration of each new PAALS Service Dog and the individual that they have been matched with. This year, the 2018 Graduation Ceremony will be held on Sunday, December 9, at 3:30pm at 300 Senate Street in downtown Columbia. The public is invited to attend this free event and to help celebrate with PAALS.
Graduation is a special occasion for everyone at PAALS. It’s a day where stories are shared, and where clients explain the wonderful impact that their PAALS Service Dog has had on their life. Not only are the stories eye-opening, but they give you a sense of exactly how impactful each dog has the potential to be.
Make plans to attend this year’s ceremony, and consider making an end of year donation to PAALS to help continue the incredible work that they do for our community!
