Is there anything better than autumn in Columbia?
Think about it: there’s so many incredible things going on in town once summer vacations end, the hot temperatures fade away, and our social calendars pick up once again.
How about when you kickoff the change of season with the Mighty Sound of the Southeast playing 2001 in Williams-Brice Stadium as our South Carolina Gamecocks take the field, enveloped by a stadium filled with a sea of garnet and black? Or when you welcome our University’s rival Clemson to town on Thanksgiving weekend for a day filled with tailgating and football?
Or how about strolling down Main Street on a Saturday morning enjoying the cooler breeze and all of the delicious smells and tastes of the food trucks and vendors at Soda City while shopping all of the beautiful, colorful handmade wares?
When October rolls around, we are so excited to have Van Gogh and His Inspirations coming to the Columbia Museum of Art! This collection includes 12 of his paintings alongside art from the artists who inspired him in his lifetime. And then, on October 9, the South Carolina State Fair comes to town and we get to celebrate 150 years with gooey caramel apples and endless entertainment. This year, there’s even some exciting new additions that you and your family will love—check out the spread on page 28 to learn more.
And then November comes, turning Columbia into a twinkling wonderland with events like Vista Lights, A Starry Night, Devine Night Out, and of course, Lights at the Zoo!
As you flip through this issue, we’re delighted to bring some of Columbia’s best Arts & Culture to you for you to support. Shop with your favorite local boutiques and shops this fall as you search for the perfect new artwork to hang up in your home, a handmade gift to send to a friend, or an outfit to wear out on the town during this busy fall season.
Happy fall, y’all!
