Because it’s good for our health, and it’s good for the environment.”

You may already know Sue Doran as a longtime Columbia resident, University of South Carolina alum, and a board member at Conservation Voters of SC, but our local advocate for environmental, human, and animal rights is also a registered dietitian nutritionist by training. Following years of nutrition consultations with people suffering from diet-related diseases, she now spends her time on the prevention side of eating. Through Let’s Meat Less, the local nonprofit she founded last year, Sue brings together her dietetics and nutrition background with her passion for service to educate and empower eating habits that positively impact our health, our environment, our community, and our farmed animal friends. 

On April 12, 2021, Let’s Meat Less launched the international movement Meatless Monday in Columbia. Meatless Monday is a public health and environmental initiative encouraging people around the world to go meatless one day a week for their health and the health of the planet. As Meatless Monday’s official ambassador—and in collaboration with the City of Columbia, Impossible Foods, and local restaurants, businesses, and other nonprofits—Sue is helping our city earn a place among leading communities worldwide that are working together to make our world a better place for current and future generations.

On Mondays, opt for a plant-based meal at home or at your favorite local restaurant. And if you can’t make it on #MeatlessMondayColumbiaSC, Sue will see you on Tuesday, or on any other day of the week you choose to meat less.
