Social Mission 2019: Serve & Connect’s Knight of Honor

At Fig, we believe in the power of a community that works together to identify needs and find solutions—one that creates connections and is passionate about helping its neighbors. For our 2019 Social Mission Partner, we’ve chosen Serve & Connect, an impactful non-profit whose good works contribute immensely to our thriving, local community.
After Kassy Alia Ray’s husband, Forest Acres Police Officer Gregory Alia, was killed in the line of duty in September 2015, Kassy began looking for a way to recognize how police and citizens work together to build stronger communities through their acts of compassion and kindness. Together, with friends of her husband, Kassy developed the idea of Knight of Honor, an evening devoted to celebrating excellence in community policing and honoring the ways that police and citizens work together to make our communities safer, healthier, and happier places to live.
Late September was selected as the time of year for the annual event as a way to remember the sacrifice that Officer Alia made and a way to remember how both police and community rallied together following the 2015 flood. This year, the event will be held on Friday, September 27th at the South Carolina State Museum.
Knight of Honor, now in it’s 4th year, is a one-of-a-kind event that transports guests back to the days of lords and ladies in a Renaissance Era-themed evening. The night includes fellowship and merriment with an open bar, a medieval-themed feast, and entertainment fit for a king. There’s an official Knighting Ceremony for officers who have been nominated to join the Round Table for going above and beyond the call of duty, and one officer will be honored with the Officer Gregory Alia Award. One outstanding police and community partnership will also be awarded during the evening.
The funds raised at the event will go towards Serve & Connect and their mission of strengthening communities by bridging the divide between police officers and the citizens that they serve.
