Social Mission: Good Samaritan Clinic

With ever-increasing costs and financial barriers to medical care, we’re extremely proud to feature the Good Samaritan Clinic as our 2026 Social Mission partner.

It was 25 years ago when Dr. Lidia Navarrete was first called to launch the Good Samaritan Clinic. A woman of strong faith with a sincere dedication to public health, Dr. Navarrete wanted to create an open, caring environment where basic healthcare was not only affordable—but free. Her boots-on-the-ground efforts made the Good Samaritan Clinic what it is today: a healthcare nonprofit comprised of four clinics providing no-cost primary and preventative care for people experiencing poverty.

Three of their four clinic locations were renovated from houses directly in the neighborhoods and communities they serve, meeting participants where they’re at in a move Executive Director Mike Young considers “punk rock.”

There, volunteer teams of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers offer crucial primary care resources with regular check-ups, preventative medicine, and diagnostic and treatment services for chronic conditions, like high blood pressure and diabetes. Twice a month, women’s healthcare specialists join the clinics to provide gynecological and obstetrics care. And starting this year, the Good Samaritan Clinic is launching a brand new mental health initiative with monthly counseling sessions, made possible through support from the CW and Dorothy G. Love Foundation.

Over the course of the last year, the Good Samaritan Clinic provided free healthcare services to over 600 individual patients—an impressive number, and one they hope to grow in 2026. With initiatives to see more patients, increase their mental health offerings, and create a more robust women’s healthcare program, the Clinic is looking to bring on more volunteer providers.

Most volunteers spend one shift a month (always in the afternoon and evening) giving their time and hands-on expertise to the Clinic, though Young and the rest of his team are grateful for any amount of time their volunteers can give. If you or your friends are interested in volunteering and giving your free time to an amazing cause, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Good Samaritan Clinic’s team.

With ever-increasing costs and financial barriers to medical care, we’re extremely proud to feature the Good Samaritan Clinic as our 2026 Social Mission partner. Over the course of four Fig Columbia issues, you’ll learn about the Clinic’s core values, initiatives, and exceptional services—made possible by the over 150 volunteers who give their time to the Clinic’s mission.

The Clinic is celebrating their 25th anniversary and the retirement of their founder, Dr. Navarrete, on March 27! If you’re interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Executive Director Mike Young at mike@goodsamaritansc.org.
