Winter Weekends in Soda City

While we don't get as much snow as the rest of the country, Columbia offers its own treasure trove of wintertime activities to fill every weekend with new delights.

While we don’t get as much snow as the rest of the country, Columbia offers its own treasure trove of wintertime activities to fill every weekend with new delights. See the recommendations we’re leaving below, and dream up new winter weekend itineraries to enjoy in Soda City!

1. Visit The Gourmet Shop’s Market

Not only does The Gourmet Shop hold exquisite wines and made-to-order food—they are also home to an eclectic market of ingredients. With spiced oils, indulgent pasta sauces, and curated charcuterie, this is the best place to visit before cooking a delicious pasta of your own.

2. Mexican Hot Chocolate at Hendrix The Bus

A hop and skip away from The Gourmet Shop, Hendrix The Bus is serving up Mexican hot chocolate, traditional hot cocoa, and all of your favorite wintertime drinks. Grab a beverage of your choice and continue shopping the small businesses in Five Points, or simply sit by the Five Points Fountain and enjoy watching this bustling neighborhood.

3. Ice Skating at Flight Adventure Park

We’re not likely to see Lake Murray freeze over anytime soon, so we’ll have to rely on indoor accommodations for ice skating adventures. Luckily, Flight Adventure Park makes it easy with an ice rink plus tons of ways to keep your kid active this winter. Check their calendar of events to see when the rink is open for public skating!

4. Dinner and a Movie

It’s no secret that some of the best written, star-studded moves premiere around the holidays. This winter, come to The Nickelodeon and support our local theater while enjoying next year’s Academy Award contenders! When the movie is through, visit any of the great restaurants on the 1600 block for a late night dinner after the show.

5. Holiday Shopping at Soda City

Voted the top farmer’s market in the country in USA Today, Soda City is a must-visit for all Columbia natives this holiday season. Every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Soda City is open rain or shine with artisan-made goods and delicious street food. You’ll find so many amazing fits that you simply can’t get anywhere else!
